I thought it would be super fun to participate in the Bloggers Quilt Festival and I decided to share one of my favorite quilts, Texas Teardrops.
Make sure you check out all the awesome quilts that are being displayed for the Bloggers Quilt Festival.
Texas Teardrops
This quilt was a bit of a challenge for me. I saw a similar design in a commercial for a toilet paper cover and immediately thought to myself “That would be an awesome quilt design!”
I love having a DVR on the TV. I often pause the TV, jump up and take a picture. My husband just laughs and says “Quilt?” I know, I’m a tiny bit crazy!
I drafted my husband for his awesome drawing skills and had him sketch the teardrop shapes. The quilt design came together pretty fast once I had the teardrop shapes.
Each block has either 2, 3 or 4 teardrop shapes appliqued on. I also used lots of bright colors with the white background. I really wanted the teardrops to pop.
I used a pink and white damask for the back. I love how it looks!
I quilted it using Roscoe {my Gammill}. I didn’t really have a plan when I started the quilting so the squiggly lines just kind of happened. All in all I think this one turned out great.
I promise I won’t object should any of you decide to nominate my Texas Teardrops Quilt. {insert big cheesy smile here}

I’m off to finish a little cleaning before my dad and step mom get here today! I’m so excited to see them. I wish they could stay longer than 2 days but I’ll take what I can get. And tomorrow, my baby turns 16!!! Say a prayer for me…I’m NOT liking this growing up crap!
Oh, wow – this is pretty! And I laughed out loud at your “inspiration”. We quilters see a quilt in everything, don’t we?
LOL – my family knows when I get that look – I’ve found another quilting pattern. Gorgeous quilt. A great applique quilt that looks pieced! Thanks for sharing.
I really like the Teardrop… are you going to make it a pattern? the fabric combinations could be endless
THAT is absolutley GORGEOUS!
What a fabulous design! It’s just fantastic. (And I’m totally inspired by tissue boxes, etc, but it rarely turns out this awesome).
Outstanding quilt. It took my breath away.
I love your quilt. Husband’s are great aren’t they? Great unique design, thanks for sharing!
Wow that is beautiful. You really have an eye for design.
Wow! You have an amazing sense of creativity… and the tear drop quilt is stunning. I’ll now look at TV commercials in a new light 🙂
This is lovely! Hehehe… Inspired by a toilet paper roll wrapping! Love it!
this looks AWESOME!
I love your teardrop quilt. Gotta love how our husbands support and help our passions. Have fun with your parents over and happy birthday to your 16 yr old. I loved watching my little ones grow up into great young adults.
Love your quilt. I am always inspired by the great ideas in the quilt fest. I would love to make one of these.
Fantastic quilt! I love that shape and adore the colors!
Beautiful!
what a fun quilt. I know just the kleenex box, lol.
You did a great job interpreting it!
the backing fabric is fabulous
Love it! The colors are fabulous too!
Vicki; I still love this one!! Did you ever get a pattern drawn up to sell for it? I would love to have it.
wow, this is a winner quilt!!!!!! So pretty, well done!.
Perfect quilt.
Love, LOVE your Texas Teardrops. The shapes really pop and the quilting is great. Thanks for sharing… love the story of how it came to be [now I know there is more than one of “us” out there. lol]
There is inspiration everywhere, don’t you think. Love that your husband was involved in the process. They remind me of Christmas ornaments. Great quilt!
Oh wow, such a pretty quilt, I love your design and the colours are so bright and cheerful.
This is wonderful! I love it!! And you made me giggle with the jumping up and taking a quick snapshot! LOL At least your husband “gets” it!! 😀
Your quilt is gorgeous! A wonderful contribution to the festival…good luck!
very pretty Vicki!
What a great pattern. I love it.
Oh how fun turning 16 yrs old. whew. I didn’t like my boys growing up either. Good luck.
I love the design. LOL. I can’t tell you how many times I have seen something and taken a ‘quilt design’ picture. I just have never done it with the television. I did take a picture of a tile pattern in the men’s room once! LOL…I am glad I was the only one in there.
Love the tear drops! Great colors and texture. Congrats on your baby’s BDay! 16 isn’t so bad, Vicki…..wait until your baby turns 40 then tell me how you feel. lol Now THAT is just weird! lol Especially when in your mind you’re still only 20. lol
The teardrops are really fun and I love that pink backing!
Oh my goodness, what an amazing pattern! I love it!!
This quilt is absolutely fantastic.
I love it. Your colour choices make this such a happy quilt.
Just a tiny bit crazy?? 🙂
This is one of those quilts that will be in my mind forever…. filed under “I’ll never be able to make this.” It’s a stunner!

That is just a fantastic quilt! I love the shapes, I hope to conquer something like that sometime 🙂
Who would have thought toilet paper would lead you to this beauty:)
What a gorgeous design – and I love the colours, too! As for inspiration sources – we were at an aviation museum this weekend, and I photographed part of an engine for a future design!
what a cool design and the quilting works perfectly. Inspiration seeks us out!
Wow! I love your gorgeous quilt so much. Awesome entry!
Very beautiful! I love that backing fabric. 🙂
I love this. It is an amazing pattern.

Gorgeous quilt!
This is gorgeous! I love hearing how you made it. Nice job!
This is lovely! And I’m the same way with inspiration. I’m constantly taking photos of pretty designs around me, thinking I could convert them into a quilt design.
Beautiful!
what an unusual shape used on your quilt!
Beautiful!! I love the colors and the pattern is fantastic!
Your inspiration made me smile – don’t we see quilts everywhere? I love the shapes, remind me a bit of Christmas baubles we used to have when I was a child.
This is so pretty!!! Love the bright fabrics against the white. I also pause my TV and take pictures for future quilts. So glad to know I’m not alone 😉
I love your inspiration!! Really beautiful job!!
I love this, and glad I found it via the Quilt Festival as I’m now following your blog too 🙂
Great colours and description of your process. I’m voting for you in this round!
Great graphic, vibrant quilt.
What applique method did you use (hand, machine)? Were they made as units and then appliqued onto one large piece of white fabric? I don’t see any block seams.
THanks.
See my entry #46 Batik Tulips
and #23 antique zigzag quilt
It’s a beautiful execution of a great idea! The pattern looks like they’re Christmas tree ornaments. I remember having this kind when I was growing up. I’ll be voting for you and wish you the best! Congratulations on making it to the finals!
Really cool design to make an overall beautiful quilt! It is gorgeous!!!
Fabulous appliqué ; )
I absolutely love this quilt, it is truly magnificent. Well done. I don’t see anything crazy about using the tv for inspiration. Once I was watching an old Lassie film and a quilt flashed onto the screen for the briefest of moments and I had to sketch it from memory – onto a till receipt that was the only scrap of paper I could find. It was complicated to piece but it is my favourite quilt nonetheless. Well done again. Philippa xx
Lovely and congratulations.
It won!
Congratulations on your win. I love your quit!
Congratulations on the win!
Beautiful quilt!
Yes! You won! Congratulations, I’m so happy for you! You totally deserved it!:)
