You must be able to be on your feet the whole shift with some bending and lifting involved. You must have basic computer skills but you don’t need longarm experience. I have so much to say about this one. I think I’ll talk about it in chunks over a few posts so nothing gets forgotten.

Let’s start with the most popular question. What are those sparkly circles?! Well friends, the circles are HTV, heat transfer vinyl, in glitter of course! It was a little tricky to find so many shades of purple. Thankfully my mom is the HTV guru so she helped me. I designed this quilt in EQ8 @theelectricquiltcompany and mom pieced it for me. The circles were originally going to be appliqué but neither one of us wanted to do it. 🤣🤣 I didn’t want raw edge appliqué and bullying, I mean begging, mom to do needle turn appliqué seemed totally insane. We tossed around wool appliqué but someone would’ve had to hand stitch that too. So we landed on vinyl. And I freaking love it!

I did do some quilting tests before we made a final decision. I tested glitter and non glitter vinyl. I didn’t like that non glitter vinyl got a little puckery (is that a word?) when it was surrounded by dense quilting. The thickness of the glitter vinyl helped and it ended up being the clear winner. Plus who doesn’t love glitter?! I quilted all around the vinyl but not on top. I’m sure it will stay adhered long term because this is the same vinyl we use on our T-shirts. They get laundered a lot and the vinyl has never come off.

Let’s talk about blocking. But first, don’t think I forgot about the other quilt. It’s almost finished! The binding hand stitching is about to go down. 🕺🏼🕺🏼 Ok, back to blocking. Have you done it? Do you know why you’d do it? I do it because when I do super dense quilting the fabrics can warp and distort so after it’s quilted I force it to be flat and square. I wish I had taken before pictures but I wasn’t that smart. 🤣🤣 By the time I got to the fourth side I had to really pull on this one to get it to be square. I knew it would be a challenge because it had lots of fullness in the center.

I did figure one thing out about pinning. In one pic the pins are straight and in the other pic you can see I alternated the angle of the pins. The angled technique really helped hold the quilt in position. I had to switch to that because my quilt kept trying to argue and pull away from my laser line. Now it’ll dry overnight and then tomorrow I’ll unpin and then sew a sleeve on it. It’s almost ready for the local show next week. 🩷🩷 this process isn’t hard, just a tad time consuming.

Well today didn’t go as planned. 🤣🤣 I was going to block this quilt and get it ready for the show but guess what?! I forgot I did a total hack job on the binding when I made it last year. I had a deadline and opted to machine bind it and it was bad. So so bad. So Hannah helped me rip the binding off so I can redo it and hand stitch it. It’s gonna be a long night. My helper, Sofee, isn’t such a great helper but she sure is cute! Maybe she’s trying to audition to be my binding fairy. 🤣🤣🤣

Well you guys, I did it. I finished the quilting.

Well you guys, I did it. I finished the quilting. 🙃🙃 I haven’t pulled it off the frame yet because I need to double check a couple things first. That was supposed to happen today but alas, life had other plans. So you get to see some wonky sideways shots and not the full thing just yet. 😅😅 Maybe tomorrow will be everyone’s lucky day! We can only hope. I’ve gotta get it off the frame and bound very soon. I have to turn it in next Monday for the show. Yikes!

Here’s a quick tip that I thought I’d share. If my quilting designs carry over beyond what I can sew/see then I’ll take pics. I used my ruler here so I’d remember what spacing I used on this section. If I hadn’t done this I would’ve been rolling back and forth a million times because I can’t remember anything nowadays. 🤣🤣 I take lots of pics as I go so I can refresh my memory. 🤪

Dare I say it? I am allllmostttt done with the quilting. I still have to fix one zig zag of yuck tension. Thankfully my INNOVA rarely gives me yuck tension. She’s my trusty best friend. 🩷🩷 Im really loving how this one is coming together but my gas tank is almost empty. I’ll be so relieved when the quilting is finished. Not looking forward to binding it but I still haven’t found a binding fairy soooooo…….
