What Happens to my Brain when I’m Sewing?

Have you ever been right in the middle of sewing something and your brain just shuts down?  This happens to me all the time especially now that I have Roscoe, my Gammill.  Case in point, my Rectangle Tango quilt.  I had it loaded and was going to town on the quilting.  Everything was going just great.  In fact, I was very close to finishing it.  And wouldn’t you know it, my brain just shut down.  I couldn’t remember what I was doing or where I was supposed to be sewing.  You can see in the picture below that I crossed over stitches which was not supposed to happen.

Arrr…I hate it when I do stupid stuff like that

I guess I’m pretty lucky that I didn’t make a bigger mess.  It usually takes me several minutes to recover from these brain dead moments.  I was able to pull out of this one pretty fast.  It’s the craziest thing ever and I do it at least once on each quilt.  Believe it or not I actually know what caused this moment.  I saw a stray thread out of the corner of my eye.  That’s all it took for my brain to freeze up.  Weird.

Moving on to funnier topics…I have to show you all my son’s Halloween costume.  He wanted to be a hot dog.  Say hello to the…

Hallo”wiener”

The hubby made his bun out of a foam mattress pad and a towel stapled to it.  Isn’t he cute?  I love it!

By the way, I did finish the quilting on my quilt.  I can’t wait to post pictures.  I still have to get the binding on it but that shouldn’t take too long.

Happy Sewing!

  1. What a cute costume, I love it! Yes I have had those times when my brain shuts down! I am so used to stipple quilting that I really, really have to concentrate when I want to do loops or something different where I cross lines…..if I don’t pretty soon I am doing stipple again.
