Quilting Dizzying Diamonds

Today I’m excited to share a quilt that I had the honor of quilting for Melissa over at  Sew BitterSweet Designs.  If you’ve never visited Melissa’s blog, you should.  She has lots of great tutorials and awesome quilt patterns.  Not to mention, she’s pretty awesome!

When I saw her Dizzying Diamonds Quilt {pattern not yet released but coming soon!} I knew I wanted to quilt it.  I didn’t have a solid game plan but ideas started to flow once I received the top.  I’m going to let you all in on a little secret….I don’t think I actually used many of those ideas.  That happens a lot with me.  My brain starts with one idea and by the time I actually quilt the quilt something totally different happens.  I’m not sure why my brain does that.

Anywho, back to Melissa’s awesome quilt.  This particular version of her pattern measures in at 72″ x 84″ but the pattern will also include a smaller 60″ x 72″ version.

A small disclaimer before we start show and tell…it’s a really really good idea to check pictures before you package up a quilt and ship it off.  The pictures don’t do this quilt justice.  The sun was brightly shining in behind the quilt and it washes out the color.  Just pretend the pictures are as awesome as the quilt.

I knew right away I wanted to do something special in the grey diamonds in the center.  I wanted them to stand out.  I used my favorite squiggly lines and stitched in triangles.

Here’s a close up of one of the corners in the big grey diamonds.

I used a lot of squiggly lines on her quilt because I love them.  And they just seemed to fit the quilt.

There were lots of pinwheels in this quilt.  So I quilted the blades and alternated two designs to give it a little sass.

In the solid grey square pictured below, I mimicked the designs I used in the larger pinwheels.  I really like how it turned out.

And the back…it’s hard to see the stitching because the fabric has a dark print.  But the fabric is awesome so who cares!

I am so honored that Melissa trusted me to quilt her wonderful quilt.  I know she loves it as much as I do {she told me so}.  However, I might have issues quilting for people because I want to steal all the quilts.  I might become the Quilt Thief.

Make sure you put the Dizzying Diamonds Quilt Pattern on your wishlist!  Melissa plans on releasing the pattern next week.  It truly is a beautiful quilt that’s great for quilters of all skill levels.  Plus, I happen to know it’s great for using up those layer cakes you have laying around.

Have a great afternoon…I’m off to load another quilt.
