I Learn Something New Everyday!

I can’t believe this weekend flew by so fast!  Tomorrow will be here before I know it and the kids will be off to school and I’ll be quilting away.
My family and I had a fantastic weekend which included a little trip to the Dallas ~ Fort Worth area.  I was a little bit lazy today and didn’t do much.  I think I’m worn out from all of our running around.  We made a stop in McKinney to visit Linda Taylor’s shop, Linda’s Electric Quilters.  She is an amazing quilter!  I wish I had her skills.  Too bad she wasn’t at the store…that would have been even better.
I picked up a cool new accessory for Roscoe.  I purchased the extend-a-drive handles that are supposed to make micro stippling easier.  I can’t wait to try them out.
It might take me a little while to get used to the new handles but I’m excited to use them.

I also picked up a couple new threads to try.  I got one cone of YLI cotton and a cone of Signature threads new Perma Core.  I haven’t tried much polyester thread yet so that should be interesting.

You all are never going to believe what I learned while I was there.  I’ve been adjusting the wrong tension knob on Roscoe.  Now before you say how is that possible let me give a little back story.

My dad found Roscoe at a Gammill shop in Phoenix and bought him for me. {I have the best dad ever!}  He loaded Roscoe into his pick up truck and drove him to Texas and helped my hubby set everything up.  Since Roscoe was a used Gammill previously loved by someone else, I had zero training from anyone.  I watched a DVD and off I went.  I’ve taught myself how to do everything.
It’s been a lot of trial and error but I’ve done pretty good if I do say so myself.  The only thing that I’ve struggled with…tension.  I’m guessing that could be due to me adjusting the wrong tension!  Oh well, at least I know now.  Maybe I can actually get Roscoe to sew with King Tut thread.  Live and learn, right?
I’m sure I’m not the only one in the world that’s learned something they should’ve known from the beginning.  That’s what makes life interesting.

Don’t forget, I’ll be announcing the winner of our Quilter’s Blog Hop Giveaway tomorrow morning!

  1. Those new handles lookfascinating. I too am more or less self taught with my Nolting Fun Quilter and tension is my biggest issue as well. I better check to see if there is another ,knob. I should be turning!!

  2. Have fun with those new handles, I hope it makes it easier especially on your back! I think we all seem to learn new things daily, glad you found out about the tension and good luck!

  3. Oh happy day! Glad you found out about the tension thingy – I’ll bet your quilting life will sprout new wings! You have a great Dad to drive your baby all the way to Texas for ya! Super.
