I haven’t been a very consistent blogger lately. I seem to have fallen back into my lazy blogger pants. I’m going to make myself get back to business and start blogging regularly again. After all, I do have a lot of information and quilty goodness that I want to share.
Let’s start with some pictures of the vintage pinwheel quilt I finished yesterday. {I use the term “finished” loosely because it still needs binding}
I apologize for the pictures. We have terrible indoor lighting and it has been raining almost everyday here. The color looks washed out in the pictures. It is made of very pale green and white pinwheel blocks.
I used a matching pale green Signature 40 wt thread and did an all over stipple design.
The back…
I ended up using white for the backing. I wasn’t sure if it was the best choice but I love how it looks. The thread really pops even though it’s hard to tell in the picture. I sure hope my step mom likes it. This one is for her grandson Cooper.
I wanted to share a little tidbit of information. This top was pieced by my step mom’s mom before she passed away. She used a combination of hand and machine piecing. There were a couple spots where the fabric was puckered and that was a little challenging for the quilting process. I thought I could sail over the puckers with no problem but not so much. I don’t really think I could’ve done anything differently short of taking the top apart and re-piecing it. Part of the sentimental value of this particular top is the fact that she pieced it so I didn’t want to do that.
The lesson here…I will be sure to slow down when I’m piecing because I understand now that accuracy really does help. Pressing is also an essential part of the quilting process and it really does make quilting easier.
I guess binding is on the schedule for tomorrow! Lots of binding…I have 3 quilts that need binding. Too bad I can’t click my heels and make a binding fairy appear.
Wouldn’t that be nice? Binding done in no time. The pinwheel quilt looks so soft. I initially thought it was white on white stripe. Very pretty.
It looks so wonderful! Congrats on the “finish” 🙂 That quilt is going to have so much sentimental value to your step-mom’s family.

Looks beautiful Vicki, I’m sure your step mom will love it and I think you were right to leave the piecing as her mother had done it. Have fun working on all the binding…….not my favorite thing!
