How About a Surprise….

Happy Thursday everyone.  It’s been a little quiet around here lately.  It seems like I’ve been super busy but I feel like there hasn’t been much blogging going on.  I’m working on a new quilt design and it seems to be consuming most of my time.  I’m hoping to finish it up today so I can move on.  My ADD is kicking in…I hate it when that happens.

So I decided it’s time to liven things up and have a little giveaway.  But…there’s a catch.  I want your opinion.  What would you love to see more of around here?  Tutorials?  What kind of tutorials?  Product Reviews?  specific Products?  Pictures of my quilting?  Ideas on how I quilt my quilts?  I appreciate the feedback as it helps me figure out what I’m doing.  Sometimes {most of the time} I’m scratching my head trying to figure out what to share.

I guess you all probably want to know what you can win.  It’s summer around here so how about a Summersville Spring Charm Pack and a little bundle of Aurifil 40 wt thread.

Just leave a comment and let me know what you think.  You can earn extra entries by tweeting the giveaway, sharing on facebook, sharing on your blog, i.e.  Just let me know what you did.

The giveaway will be open until May 23rd at 11:59PM CST.  Good luck and I look forward to reading all the comments.

Have a great Thursday!

  1. I always enjoy your blog, and would love to see some ideas for quilting on a domestic machine. Thanks so much for a fun giveaway.

  2. I don’t ever seem to follow a tutorial, but I like to get inspiration from what others are making. So I am always on the lookout for pictures of quilts or other projects (in progress or not).

  3. I would like tutorials of somewhat simple quilt patterns or techniques…. Always helpful, no matter how long you have been quilting, to learn a shortcut! Thank you.

  4. Tutorials for quick and easy projects as well as quilts! I’m not so keen on product reviews because I have trouble sourcing stuff in the UK!!

  5. Yes,,that’s what I would like to see,,,all of the above! LOL Tutorials top my list though,,,and I think we all love to see pictures of your quilts! Thanks for the chance to win.

  6. Hey Vicki,

I’m all about process. I love watching people move forward and getting an idea of what they were thinking when they made one decision or another. Turns out – that’s covered in all kinds of blog posts! 🙂

  7. Tutorials are always good – and I like in progress pictures. Not sneaky ones that only show a little – ones where I can potentially see where the quilt is going, I love those! I like to be inspired by others peoples choice of colors, fabrics, placement of both color and fabrics, etc.

I also like simple how to’s – sometimes it’s not until I see someone else do something I do wrong, or they have a better way of doing it, then I have an “AHA” moment!!!

  8. I like tutorials, pictures of projects, getting to know you stuff, just general and diverse. I’m really into swaps and flickr groups for inspiration.

  9. I just started FMQ. Hints and tips would be wonderful. I love tutorials that have lots of pictures and information. Step by step. And I would like to make a Dresden someday.

  10. I really like tutorials, but I would definitely like to see more of your quilting and how you quilt your quilts 🙂 I really want to learn FMQ, but so far I’m really scared of it lol! And all the courses you see on craftsy are mostly shown on longarms and not domestic machines, which has me a bit meh, cuz doing it on a domestic is a huge difference after all.

  11. Thanks for the giveaway. I always enjoy seeing product reviews and pictures of quilts (in process and completed). I also love tutorials and special tricks of the trade. I would like to learn how to make Jacob’s coat if you like that particular pattern. Overall, though I think you are doing an amazing job….just keep doing the same great things.

  12. Tutorials are always appreciated. I like ones with ideas for quick-to-make fabric gifts, or home or holiday decor ideas. I’d also appreciate info on fabric selection for quilts. I’m pretty new to quilting and don’t know where to start, other than to use pre-cuts. Many thanks!

  13. I love photos!!! As well as some ideas on how to quilt a top. I have such a hard time figuring out how I should quilt. Should I put a simple design all over, stitch in a ditch, get funky LOL
I love your blog. Keep up the good work!

  14. I love tutorials, I learn by seeing how something is done. I also like notions, so you showing a new tool would be nice. Thank you for all you do, your blog is fine the way it is.

  15. I would like to see projects (or even links) to projects using precuts. Also listings for online retainers selling non-Aurifil thread (my Pfaff does not like Aurifil). I enjoy seeing easy projects that can be completed in an afternoon

  16. gadget and book reviews, pix of what you’re up to and how you do it, your opinions and preferences on techniques are good. what interests you interests me. thanx for the yummy giveaway.

  17. I’d like to see tutorials for lap robe size and larger, quilts. Simpler ones, modern ones. I like applique by hand also. Thank you for the chance to win. karen608 at yahoo dot com

  18. I like tutorials, usually for binding or purses and bags etc. But that might not be for everyone. I especially like some ideas on quilting the quilt. I usually do a very basic design just because I can’t think of what to do. I also like to see what you are working on. Seeing fun colors and projects always brightens my day. I get such inspiration from others.

  19. I loved your most recent blogs with your techniques. I think that product reviews that you find helpful in your quilting. I also would love to have a tutorial on different types of pouches! Love the thread…

  20. I enjoy reading it all, tips, tut’s, eye candy… but if I had to choose just one right now it would be quilting designs for the domestic sm.

    Love your blog

  21. I’m really curious if those frames for regular sewing machine work and if they make quilting easier. I also need new ways of using up some scraps 🙂

    Thanks!

  22. I love tutorials on making new-to-me (especially modern!) quilts. I love to see pictures of your quilting – as a longarm quilter, I am always interested in the quilting of others! Love it when other quilters explain their thinking when they decide on what to quilt on their quilts!!! Since I only do hand-quided FMQ, I am always looking for inspiration for my next quilt!! Thanks for the awesome giveaway! Of course, what you share with us on your blog is a fabulous gift all the time!!!!

  23. I would like to know what your tips are on how to back a quilt, as far as fabric selection. Do you match it to the front, use something totally different, a little of both? I don’t know how to figure out what looks good.

  24. As a newer quilty person, I’d love Tutorials….and any help on FMQ with my regular sewing machine!

Loooove your blog just as it is tho…. Thanks for all you already share with us! 🙂

  25. I like tutorials and always like to see what you are doing. I especially like the Frugal Friday even if I am always late getting there and everything is sold. 🙂 I am off to post your giveaway on my blog. 🙂

  26. Oh pretty! I like seeing tutorials, and since I like your quilting, I always love it when you add in any trade secrets or tips you have to offer for how you accomplished quilting what you’re working on!

  27. I have been working on my Texas Teardrops, a table topper and a runner. Love the pattern, but when I quilted heavily around the block, I didn’t like how the teardrop laid. On blocks with white in them, I stitched in them. Did you do anything to the teardrops on yours at this point? I love having the tutorials. And your give aways are nice!! Thank you

  28. I love reading your blog. I enjoy seeing all your projects. I also like tutorials. Mostly because I am fairly uneducated in the ways of sewing and quilting so all the tips and tricks are always appreciated.

  29. I agree with one of the previous comments – it would be great to have a breakdown of the different types of thread and when to use which kind. Thanks for the chance to win some goodies!

  30. Great giveaway! I would love to see your step-by-step process when you get ready to quilt. I’m frequently stumped and wonder what you do. Thanks!

  31. I really like your blog. I’m the kind of blog reader that scans all the photos first and then if the photos are great, I go back and read. So lots of photos are a good thing.

  32. Tutorials are so great…helps a lot to see how you really do a project and I love smaller quilting ideas. Perfect for gifts! Nice giveaway!

  33. I’d love to see more ideas on how you quilt your quilts and lots of advice and tutorials on quilting quilts and how to transfer designs onto them to quilt. I am so lost when it come sto this step.

  34. Thanks for the giveaway! I like tutorials, particularly on things like bags and smaller projects but I also like a good honest product review!

  35. I enjoy your blog 🙂 Nice bright photos of lovely quilts are always an attraction for me, and some good tutorials. At the moment I like tutorials for smaller projects as I am just too tired to make a larger quilt!

  36. I like tutorials, I would like to see one on basting. It seems like I always get a couple of wrinkles on the back when done quilting. I also like to see small gift ideas that can be made in a day or two. Thanks.

  37. I love surprises and you hit the mark with this selection!!! I really enjoy seeing pictures of your projects – truely inspirational!!

  38. I love tutorials especially small gift tutorials that I can do quickly. This is a great giveaway. Thank you!! I have been very busy with my daughters graduation. I haven’t had time to blog or podcast either!! I hate it when life gets in my way… Lol

  39. I love tutorials so I definitely would like to see more of those! And, I’d love to participate in another quilt-a-long! I’m loving the Texas Teardrop! Thanks so much for the wonderful giveaway!

  40. Oh, I’d love to win! thank you for the chance.

I appreciate what you have been posting. I enjoy the tutorials and seeing your quilts. Tool reviews would be lovely, I really like to hear what other quilters think when I’m shopping for things.

    Michelle

  41. A product review once in awhile is ok. I’m not huge on them. I am always interested in how folks determine how they will quilt their quilts. (Do you just look at it and know how or is there a process you go through…..that sort of thing.) Tutorials are good.
I think that what you do now is great. I keep coming back so you know this is a place I like. I like that you give us a little you, we know a little of your family and we get quilting to boot! 🙂

  42. I love tutorials & process/progress posts about quilts & other crafty stuff. I really like an honest product review. And I really like to see photos of fabric purchases &/or fabric stash. Thanks for the surprise giveaway, they’re the nicest kind!

  43. I always love honest product reviews…especially for things to make quilting easier and quicker. I, as I’m sure everyone else has too, have lots of “great products” that didn’t quite turn out so great. 🙂 Oh and I love tutorials too!

  44. I like all that you listed but in different precentages. I love seeing your quilts and how you quilted them. I like turorials and product reviews, but less often than seeing quilts. I’d like book reviews and even teacher reviews maybe. HIH

  45. Your quiltalong was great so I think you’ve covered the tutorials base for a while. How about tips and tricks you’ve found? FMQ ideas? Just WIPs you’re working on?

  46. I’m a new quilter. Any tutorial would be of interest to me. Especially any kind of tips and tricks would be most helpful. Thanks for a great blog!

  47. Hi Vicki, love your blog. More tutorials and QALs would be great!!!!
Please enter me in your Summer giveaway. I have never tried Aurofil thread, but I keep hearing lots of good things about it.
    Thanks,
    Jacqueline

  48. I would like to see tutorials and FMQ tips. It is always so hard to decide what to quilt on a quilt. So, maybe you can help us with that also.

  49. I would like to see tutorials and FMQ tips. It is always so hard to decide what to quilt on a quilt. So, maybe you can help us with that also.

  50. I always feel like I hit gold when I find a tutorial. tee hee
Small sewing projects for gift giving would be nice.
Thanks for the chance to win.

  51. I love to see tutorials. It might not always show the way I do things but sometimes I can pick up ideas to make it in a way that might be easier than the way I might do something Sometime a different perspective helps a lot. I also like reviews on different quilting gadgets – how you use them and why you like them. Thanks for the giveaway.

  52. I love receiving your blog posts in my email! My especially favorite thing is little quick to do projects that I can carry with me or complete in an evening or two. It’s nice to collect a little stash of gifties to have on hand for a friend or family member that’s feeling a little down. Be especially blessed, Kathy

  53. I love your posts! I love seeing your quilts. I so new to quilting, I always want to know it all, but I would love to see how you quilt your quilts. I am really loving the Texas Teardrops QAL, and I would love to do more QAL in the future. My cheap sewing machine died, and I would love to know what your thoughts are on sewing machines in price ranges. I think its going to cost me more than the machine to fix it. I love the mix of what you share, it is fun, and keeps me in the loop! Oh trends, I would love to see trends in shapes, fabric, etc. Ok. I can ramble. Hope some of this helps!

  54. I really enjoy following your blog. Your quilting is fantastic. I want to try some English paper piecing. This looks like fun fabric to play with.

  55. The thing I love the most about blogs are the pictures. I love getting inspiration from seeing finished projects. Most of the time I see color combos and patterns I would have never picked out myself and that helps open my eyes to more possibilities.

  56. I love the pictures, whether they are of quilts you’ve made, tutorials or product reviews…I just love seeing what you’re doing…along with an explanation too, of course!
